Magdelys Savigne is a percussionist from Cuba. Since coming to Canada she has performed with JUNO-winning group Jane Bunnett and Maqueque, as well as with Danilo Perez, Brian Blade, Hilario Duran, Ozere, Ventanas, and more. She received her degree in classical percussion at University of Arts in Havana. She plays many different instruments, including congas, bongos, timbales, cajon, bata, drum kit, and marimba.
In this workshop, the most important thing is to have fun! Magdelys will take students on a journey to Cuba. They will explore different Latin rhythms through playing hand percussion. She will give them patterns to play for musical styles that include: mambo, cha cha cha, salsa, rumba and Afro Cuban music. She will also explore how to improvise in these rhythms. Open to all levels of experience and all ages. Bring your instruments, some will be provided.
