About Instructor

If you had to only listen to 2 albums for the rest of your life, what albums would you choose?

This question would be a lot easier if it were 5 albums to choose, but my answer for today would be Django Reinhardt: Intégrale and the Bluegrass Album Band.

What artist would you most want to collaborate with?

Tony Rice.

Last great concert you saw?

Not that I haven’t seen a decent concert since, but the greatest concert I ever attended and truly was “great” was Richie Havens in 2008.

What is your favourite piece of musical equipment?

My Stelling Red Fox banjo.

What is your most memorable musical experience?

Most memorable would be something in the last 24 hours, but most meaningful was seeing Earl Scruggs perform in Golden Gate Park.

What do you love most about music?

When it gives you the chills.

What would you say to someone who is interested in studying music?

Be prepared to be constantly humbled.  Don’t think of it as a contest, but something where you will get better and get more enjoyment from if you stick with it. That’s the biggest key – stick with it.

What do you like to do when you are not playing music?

I like to cycle, go on walks with my wife, read about music and musicians, and play with my cat.

What is your favourite film of all time?

Bluegrass Country Soul

What part of the world would you like to travel to most?

The West Coast
