About Instructor

If you had to only listen to 2 albums for the rest of your life, what albums would you choose?

Francisco Cespedes’ Vida Loca and an album with all 9 Beethoven Symphonies.

What artist would you most want to collaborate with?

I would love to sing and play violin with Concha Buika, a very interesting African-Spanish singer.

Last great concert you saw?

Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and Wynton Marsalis

What is your favourite piece of musical equipment?

Vintage Microphone, 1950’s Shure 55.

What is your most memorable musical experience?

When I sang for 5000 people in a theatre at the age of 10. It was very hard to open my mouth at first but then when they turned the lights off and I felt like I was all by myself I was only thinking about the music and that my grandmother would be very proud of me because she was at home watching me on TV 😉

What do you love most about music?

Music is a unique language that we all can understand and feel. You can communicate to anybody, it has no limits, and brings people together since the beginning of our race. I love seeing in people their unique response to music.

What would you say to someone who is interested in studying music?

I just came up with this and I think it will be catchy.
I will tell them that it requires the 3 P’s. Passion, Patience and Practice

What do you like to do when you are not playing music?

I looooove to cook. The best part is that in Canada you can find all the ingredients in one place. Back home in Cuba is an adventure to chase ingredients for a salad.

What is your favourite film of all time?

That’s really hard, but I’ll say “The Bucket list” with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson.

What part of the world would you like to travel to most?

Europe. I would love to visit all different kinds of cities. Preferrably the least famous but most unique ones.
